A decade ago, a life-changing event led Barbara to reassess her path. As a solicitor, her life was steeped in the rigours of the legal world, but a personal upheaval stirred a deep yearning for a more profound connection with herself and the world around her. This led her to practice Hatha Yoga, a discipline that beautifully weaves together the dual energies of sun and moon, male and female, and within which she discovered a balm for the soul.
In her approach to teaching Hatha Yoga, Barbara profoundly understands the practice's ability to suit every constitution, irrespective of age or physical state. Focusing on alignment, she leverages various props to aid students, guiding them to find peace and unity within themselves. As such, she is steadfast in her mission to debunk
misconceptions surrounding yoga – that it is only for the flexible, slim, or those able to achieve advanced poses. To Barbara, yoga is about being present, honouring one's current physical and mental state, and gently guiding it towards balance and harmony.
Hatha Yoga is often referred to as the original form of yoga, having its roots in ancient Indian traditions dating back thousands of years. This practice is centred around postures, breath control, and meditation, aiming to integrate the mind, body, and spirit. It's widely recognised with numerous scientific studies underscoring the evidence-based health benefits of Hatha Yoga.
But Barbara's vision extends beyond traditional yoga spaces. She brings yoga to various settings - retirement villages, families, and even to VCE students amidst their academic pressures. Her programs are tailor-made to cater to the needs of these diverse groups, helping them navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience. Whether a child learning to discover the light within themselves or an elderly individual finding strength and flexibility, Barbara's All One Yoga is a beacon of holistic well-being.
In her personal practice, Barbara embodies the philosophy that yoga is a journey of self-discovery, balance, and peace. Her routines are gentle, mindful, and harmonised with the body's unique needs and rhythms.
In the heart of Torquay's natural beauty, Barbara continues to breathe life into her vision. With dreams of reaching a broader audience, she looks forward to sharing the transformative powers of Hatha Yoga with more individuals and communities. Her philosophy is simple and profound - Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self, as beautifully encapsulated in The Bhagavad Gita.
With All One Yoga, Barbara Hanna has created a space without walls— fostering connection, well-being, and self-discovery wherever needed. Her journey and teaching method are a testament to the transformative power of Hatha Yoga and a celebration of the potential within every individual to find balance, peace, and wholeness.
